Production of Flavor Emulsions – Customer Success Story

Written by Patrick Lakin, National Sales Manager

We were contacted by a manufacturer of liquid and spray-dry flavor emulsions when they were looking for a solution to improve their process. To prepare their emulsions, they were using a low speed axial mixer, an overnight process that still left lumps. Product had to be passed through a high-pressure homogenizer a minimum of 4 to 5 times to achieve an acceptable emulsion quality.

After visiting our equipment lab for initial testing, the flavor emulsions manufacturer saw what the Admix Fastfeed™ powder induction and dispersion equipment was capable of. They were eager to set up an in-plant trial where their own operators could use the Fastfeed for live production for two weeks.

On the first day of the trial, they were able to induct, disperse and hydrate 400 lbs. (181 kg) of gum acacia on a recirculation loop to a 600-gallon (2.3 kl) tank in just 15 minutes! Remember, this process typically took them overnight and the product still contained lumps! Now, instead multiple passes through the homogenizer, all it takes is just one pass at a much lower pressure in a fraction of the time.

The customer stated that because of the Fastfeed, the emulsions are “the best their plant has ever seen!” If you are making emulsions, or need to induct & disperse powder and save time, this is where we specialize. Contact us today about your application!
